The Five Sisters Zoo, 'Zoo Illuminations', is a must-see event for families looking to get into the holiday spirit. This festive event is held annually, and it features a beautiful light display that illuminates the entire zoo, creating a magical atmosphere that both children and adults will enjoy. So, join us for a wild adventure at Zoo Illuminations!
In case you missed it, our (unitentional) theme so far for the season has been illuminated light trails. We kicked off the season with a visit to the Christmas at the Botanics event followed by a stroll through the magical Monteviot Lights. Therefore, our visit to Five Sisters Zoo Christmas Illumination was a fun way to continue our holiday celebrations.
As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by the warm glow of thousands of twinkling lights. The zoo was completely transformed, with illuminated animal sculptures, sparkling trees, and beautiful decorations everywhere you looked.
One of the highlights of the evening was the opportunity to see the animals after dark. Our fun started off with a delightful viewing of the otters eating their fish dinner as well as nearby meerkats playing in their enclosure.
We made a quick visit to the Lost Kingdom building to visit some old friends before they closed for the evening (they aren't normally open during Zoo Illuminations).
We were able to see (and sometimes only hear) so many of the Zoo residents in a whole new light as they roamed around their habitats, illuminated by the colourful lights.
We even saw one of Santa's reindeer who seemed to be fueling up for his upcoming big night!
In addition to the stunning light display and the animals, there were also several food, drink, and holiday product vendors offering snacks, hot cocoa, and other festive goods.
The atmosphere was filled with holiday cheer, and the music added to the magic of the evening.
