We all need time to rejuvenate and relax, and one way we like to do so is by enjoying gardens. What is wonderful about this week’s virtual ‘explore and discover’ mission, is that it is a “peaceful place to explore in any season”. So, join us as we bring you on a visit to the most northerly Botanic Gardens in the United Kingdom- Inverness Botanic Gardens!

We were fortunate to visit Inverness in the Scottish Highlands this past February and absolutely loved our time there. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out our article on the Inverness Castle Experience and be on the lookout for more upcoming articles from our trip! However, without further ado, let’s start our exploration of Inverness Botanic Gardens.
Our tour starts in what was one of the highlights of the Gardens- the Tropical House. It is a lovely space filled with magnificent plants from around the world.

There are even some wrought iron chairs and tables if you want to sit and relax; I could just picture myself spending the day writing there. Inverness residents sure are fortunate to have such a beautiful location to visit all the time.
We next head into a more arid climate- the Cactus House. Be sure to stick to the path, you wouldn’t want to bump into one of those prickly cacti!
Even though it was winter when we visited, the outdoor gardens were also lovely.
Café Botanics is not to be missed as they offer a variety of locally produced food and drink. We enjoyed some coffee and a wee treat while sitting in their greenhouse (they also have seating in the café).

We were so impressed with Inverness Botanic Gardens as they are more than just a simple botanic garden. They also “support sustainable horticulture, environmental education, and inclusive volunteering”. If you are in Inverness, we highly recommend that you take the time to visit this wee hidden gem. Inverness Botanic Gardens is operated by the charity, High Life Highland, and we love their motto- “Making Life Better”. They sure made ours better after our visit. Check out their website for more information on Inverness Botanic Gardens including hours of operation. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged as they are vital to helping them continue the work they do.
As I mentioned earlier, one of the ways we like to relax is by visiting gardens and have been to some wonderful ones around Scotland. Therefore, you might also be interested in those including Dawyck Botanic Garden, Logan Botanic Garden, and one of our favourites- Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.
Speaking of Edinburgh, if you are in our beautiful capital city, why not join us on one of our award-winning Edinburgh walking tours? Sami- our human tour guide- would love to take you on a relaxing stroll around the city along with one of our Golden Retriever tour guides (Walter and Arthur) who love to give visitors an extra special welcome. Explore our website for more information and to book your tour.
Until next time- Explore & Discover!
