A Wee Visit to the Memories of Edinburgh Zoo Exhibition

As members of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), we value the ability to visit Edinburgh Zoo on a regular basis. In fact, it is probably one of the places we have written about the most on this blog (just type in ‘Edinburgh Zoo’ into the search bar on our blog homepage for those articles). It is the place we go to when we are looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh and just enjoy nature and some of our friends from the animal kingdom.

While we have only been members of the Zoo for the past eight years, we have already made countless treasured memories of our own. However, there have been people fortunate to have visited for decades. With that rich history in mind, Edinburgh Zoo has a wee exhibition that is celebrating those memories. You can see some fascinating photos from over the years and even have a chance to share your own memories. There are also some fun activities that help engage people of all ages.
We envy the days when the (old) tram used to bring visitors directly to Edinburgh Zoo. There are some fun, vintage posters on display (and for sale if you are interested).
One of our favourite parts of the exhibition was the celebration of how Edinburgh Zoo works to “remove barriers and support more people to build meaningful and lasting connections with the zoo and the natural world.” It’s a “place that belongs to many”. Now those are values we can get behind.

Located in Lemur Lodge, ‘Memories of Edinburgh Zoo’ is a lovely wee exhibition that we recommend you check out if you are visiting the Zoo. And it isn’t just for locals as it would also be of interest for visitors interested in a bit of the Zoo’s history. However, be sure to get there before it ends this Sunday (21 June). The exhibition is included as part of the admission ticket. Head over to the Edinburgh Zoo website for more information on how to book your ticket.

You can continue your outdoor explorations after you visit Edinburgh Zoo by joining us on one of our entertaining Edinburgh walking tours. One of our Golden Retriever co-guides would love to provide you with a bit of their own unofficial animal therapy as they show you around Edinburgh. One fun bit of trivia related to memories at Edinburgh Zoo- if you book one of our private walking tours, be sure to request to go through Princes Street Gardens so you can ‘find’ a former resident of the Zoo and learn all about his story.
Until next time- Explore & Discover!
